U.S. housing starts fell 3.1% in October to 1.311 million units, according to monthly data released by the U.S. Census Bureau on Tuesday. This reading followed the 1.9% decline (revised from -0.5%) recorded in September.
In the same period, building permits decreased 0.6% after falling 3.1% (revised from -2.9%) in September.

The Dollar Index fell following the data and was last seen trading virtually unchanged on the day around 106.20.
